Photo of students enter-acting during first day of classes at UNC-Chapel Hill

Nice to see the activity and energy back on campus this fall. As we settle into the semester just a reminder of the UNC COVID-19 Community Standards:

Graphic of a person wearing a face maskIt’s also important to remind students and staff that face masks must be worn inside any University building at all times. Face masks are also encouraged outside, especially when participating in group events or gatherings. Masks are also required indoors throughout Chapel Hill and Orange County.

We are excited to see our Carolina Union student staff in the building! The Union welcomed 84 student employees starting with an ice cream welcome back afternoon, two days of department training and a full day of Union training. The Union still has 100 positions to fill this Fall so spread the word and send interested applicants to www.go.unc.edu/cuemployment. And stay tuned for more details on a Pop-up event hosted by Event Service – Scheduling & Guest Services departments during the third week of September. More info to come as they finalize their event plans.

Need student employee name badges? Fill out this form and CCS will get to work creating name badges for your team.

The FallFest that wasn’t

A LOT of work went into planning and preparing for the 25th FallFest on August 15. The event location was updated to spread out across campus and included more student engagement activities than in the past. Due to severe weather the event was cancelled on August 15, but quick planning and pivoting allowed many of the student activities to be rescheduled.

Just to highlight a few rescheduled activities:

  • Black Light Bash: Moved to September 21st. Time TBD
  • Retro Arcade & Extra Games: Moved to September 21st. Time TBD

SmallFest will also feature student engagement activities during August 23-27 from 11 am-1 pm in the Pit. SmallFest offers in-person tabling opportunities for new and returning students to connect with student organizations and learn more about getting involved with student orgs and making the most out of their Carolina experience. Over 280 clubs are participating during the week.

  • Types of Orgs participating per day:
Monday: Academic and Ideology & Politics
  • Tuesday: Service
  • Wednesday: Cultural-International and Faith & Religion, Special Interest-Entrepreneurial, Environmental, and Military Affiliated
  • Thursday: Fraternity & Sorority, Media, Performance, Student Government, Special Interest-Visual Art
  • Friday: Special Interest: Health & Wellness, Sport & Recreation, and Professional Development

You can also view videos submitted by student organizations to learn more about the organizations, what they do and have to get in touch with them at SmallFest Films 21.

Seeking Student Leaders

The Carolina Union Board of Directors is seeking student applications for Student-Member-at-Large and the Student Organizations Appointment board seats. Applications are open until August 25. Please encourage students to apply and help lead the Union Board.
