And let’s not forget the hours of planning and organizing this event took. Shoutout to Lee Roberts and Tammy Lambert for their work on this reimagined event.

Spotlight: Reservation Manager Alexis Berg

Alexis Berg joined the Reservations team in July as Reservation Manager. Prior to her role in Event Services, she was an operations student staff member at Carolina and returned after working for the Administrative Office of the Courts.

Creating FUSE- for a better workplace for student employees

Event Services representatives met for the inaugural FUSE (Forum for Union Student Employees) meeting on August 26th. Representatives from Operations, Guest Services, Audio Visual, Maintenance, Housekeeping, and Reservations discussed the mission statement, the concepts that form the pillars of the forum, and first actions as representatives. FUSE representatives will meet bi-weekly for the remainder of the year to discuss and implement ideas to create a more communicative, attentive, and interactive workplace for Union student employees.

Updates from Guest Services

Enjoyed Fall training and students are happy to be back on site.

All bus maps/schedules are up-to-date and located at the resource hub by the Welcome Desk.

Guest Services started supporting General Purpose Classrooms (GPC’s) on September 7.

Housekeeping week

The Union wants to send a big thank you to the staff who have kept our Union spaces clean and sanitized! We appreciate all your work and continued support to keep our spaces safe and clean. International Housekeepers and Environmental Services Week are September 12-18.

Disinfecting opportunity: The Union is serving as a pilot-test site for an “Ultra-Loop” disinfectant machine that will be placed near the elevator along South Road. This machine is aimed at disinfecting and sanitizing electronic devices such as cell phones, iPads, laptops, badges, and much more. Through trials, it effectively kills 99.99% of pathogens and viruses within 30 seconds.

Cool fact: the machine was created by current UNC students and launched as a business to serve institutions and corporations within the last year.

Best wishes!

Erick Twaite and Michele Meyer will be married on October 16th, 2021.

A brief timeline of their long-developing love story from Erick and Michele (shared with permission):

  • 2001 We met in a bouncy castle.
  • 2002 We bonded during study hall.
  • 2003 We admitted we kinda liked each other. Did nothing about it.
  • 2004 We went to prom together, became boyfriend and girlfriend, but also were kind of afraid of one another. Broke up before college.
  • 2005-2011 Stayed friends.
  • 2011 Kissed (for the first time!) at a party. It was a good kiss. Tried to date but got scared.
  • 2012-2013 Stayed friends. Sometimes inexplicably held hands but did not address it.
  • 2014 Confronted one another in the middle of the night after Michele’s birthday party. Kissed a little. Decided to figure out once and for all if we had feelings for one another. Never looked back.
